Questions

Rebus puzzle FAQ

What is a rebus puzzle?

A rebus puzzle represents a familiar word, phrase, or idiom through pictures, symbols, letters, and visual arrangement. For example, HEAD placed above HEELS means “head over heels.” The arrangement matters as much as the words: read their positions aloud before trying to name the expression.

How does the Daily Five work?

Everyone receives the same five puzzles each UTC day: two easy, two medium, and one hard. Your progress is saved on this device, and finishing the set keeps your daily streak alive.

Can I play more than five puzzles?

Yes. Endless mode lets you keep solving and filter by difficulty or collection. Smart Mix gradually raises the challenge as your answer streak grows.

Can I get a hint without losing the whole puzzle?

Yes. The first clue explains the idea, the second shows the answer pattern and word lengths, and optional three-choice assistance gives you a smaller step before revealing the answer.

Do I need an account?

No. Scores, streaks, and solved puzzles are stored locally in your browser. The game is free, with no account or download required. Clearing your browser data removes your saved progress, and progress does not sync between devices.

How do I solve a rebus puzzle when I am stuck?

Start by naming what you can see, then describe its position, size, color, or repetition. If one word sits inside another, try reading the clue with “in”; if it is above another, try “over.” Say your description aloud and look for a familiar expression. Use a clue or three choices if you need a nudge; wrong guesses do not cost points.

Which rebus puzzles are best for beginners?

Start with Easy Starters or the first two puzzles in the Daily Five. Simple picture combinations help you learn to name the objects, while word layouts introduce clues such as “under,” “between,” and “back.” After solving or revealing a puzzle, read its explanation to learn the visual pattern. Some answers are English idioms, so difficulty also depends on how familiar you are with the phrase.
